INTRODUCING OUR NEW MENTORSHIP PROGRAM!

Did you have a person in your life that believed in you when you were growing up? That helped shape your life through both positive as well as difficult times? Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms believes that mentors can be an invaluable resource during the pivotal years of a New York City teen’s life, as such, we invite you to apply for our pilot mentorship program, starting this year.

Our summer camp provides high school students who have never left home with an intensive residential camp experience. Going to camp helps teenagers broaden their perspectives, build self-esteem, set goals, experience healthy living, and much more!

We are in search of compassionate and committed adults to help us build upon the camp experience here in the city as part of a pilot mentorship program. Here are some ways you can help:

Become a Mentor

For the 2015-16 Mentorship Program, mentors and mentees will be part of a single group that will meet twice monthly to build relationships and experience the city together. Participation as a mentor means making a seven-month commitment from November through June. Being part of a mentorship group is fun and rewarding, but also requires a serious commitment of time and energy.

If you are interested in being a mentor, please carefully review and complete the Mentor Application. If you have questions, please contact Kaylee Dueber, Mentorship Program Coordinator, by e-mailing kaylee@stevescamp.org.

We’re seeking folks who:

  • Are over the age of 20

  • Believe in a world where everyone has the resources to achieve their life visions

  • Understand that privilege does not knock on everyone’s door

  • Know that success does not look the same to everyone

  • Understand the importance of holistic support

  • Believe that the heart, mind, and body are equally important

  • Relish the opportunity to build relationships with 14-15 year-olds to build up their voices and worth

Apply today and/or reach out to Kaylee (kaylee@stevescamp.org) to talk about this program!

Help us find great experiences in the City

Launching a pilot that we can one day expand upon means finding partners willing to donate space, food, and experiences that become an essential part of our program. Here is what we are looking for:

  • Restaurants that would donate meeting space from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday, and/or discounted or donated meals, an educational experience on healthy habits and food creativity, etc.

  • Offices that have space to share from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday, and/or workshops or activities to attend that target building knowledge or developing new perspectives

  • Activities or programsthat provide opportunities for enhancing mentor-mentee relationship bonding, and/or expand knowledge on building healthy hearts, minds, bodies, and communities

If you have any thoughts on these opportunities, please contact Kaylee at kaylee@stevescamp.org. Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Thank you Steve Kessner for creating this opportunity for us!
